Alexander and Groselle combine for 18 points in victory

PROVIDENCE, RI – Creighton products Ty-Shon Alexander (12) and Geoffrey Groselle (6) combined for 18 points to help the BIG EAST/USA Basketball team defeat East Coast Basketball 102-64 in an exhibition game Wednesday at Alumni Hall. The contest was preparation for the BIG EAST/USA team before it travels to compete in the Pan American Games.

The BIG EAST Conference is representing USA Basketball at the Pan American Games in Lima, Peru, July 31-August 4. The team is practicing at Providence College before leaving for Peru on Saturday. Providence's Ed Cooley is the team's head coach.

After leading 10-8 in the first quarter, the BIG EAST/USA team went on a 16-0 run and took control of the game. The halftime lead was 58-27.
Myles Powell, a guard from Seton Hall, shot 7-of-13 from the field, and scored his team-high 18 points in 15 minutes of playing time. Providence center Nate Watson finished with 13 points and Alexander added 12 points on 4-of-7 shooting from the floor in addition to four rebounds, four assists and a pair of steals. Groselle started at center and had six points and five rebounds in 13 minutes.

All 13 players scored for the BIG EAST/USA squad. No player saw more than 23 minutes of action.

East Coast Basketball is a collection of current collegiate players. Notre Dame's John Mooney was the team's high scorer with 18 points.
