Volleyball Climbs To 14th In New AVCA Poll

Bluejays start BIG EAST play on Friday vs. Villanova
AVCA Top 25 Poll
OMAHA, Neb. -- The Creighton Volleyball moved up one spot to a season-best 14th in the American Volleyball Coaches Association top-25 poll released on Monday, Sept. 23.
The Bluejays improved to 7-3 after winning its second tournament of the fall last weekend, the Creighton Classic, via matching 3-0 victories over Wichita State and Wyoming. Top-10 teams No. 2 Baylor (9-0), No. 3 Nebraska (8-1) and No. 8 Washington (9-1) are the lone teams to beat the Bluejays thus far and have combined for a 26-2 record.
This week marks the 43rd consecutive week the Bluejays have been ranked, the nation's 10th-longest active streak. The Bluejays have now been ranked in 57 all-time polls, and every poll since Oct. 31, 2016. CU's all-time best ranking in program history is No. 7, which came in the poll released on Aug. 28, 2017.
Stanford lost a home match to new No. 9 BYU, but still ascended a spot to the No. 1 ranking after earning 28-of-65 first place votes to overtake previous No. 1 Nebraska. Baylor, which picked up 27 first place votes, is up to a best-ever No. 2 slotting, 51 points behind the Cardinal. Nebraska, Pitt and Penn State are now third, fourth and fifth, respectively. Creighton's BIG EAST rival, Marquette, fell two spots to 10th.
Creighton is 94-25 all-time when playing as a ranked team in the AVCA poll, including a 41-6 mark at home, where the Jays will be this weekend.
The Bluejays return to the court with two matches this weekend as BIG EAST play gets underway. The five-time defending league champions host Villanova on Friday at 7 p.m. before meeting Georgetown on Sunday at 1 p.m.
