Yudai Tashiro converted off an indirect free kick from the top of the six-yard box
The Bluejays improved to 5-2-1 on the season, while the Golden Hurricane fell to 3-4-0.
Tashiro found the back of the net for the game winner immediately following an indirect free kick during the 106th minute. Tulsa played a back pass to its goalkeeper who touched the ball with his hands to induce an indirect free kick for Creighton from the top of the six-yard box. Kuba Polat tapped the free kick to Tashiro who blasted the ball into the top of the goal to lift the Bluejays to the victory.
Tulsa opened up the scoring in the 28th minute of the match as Marcos Moreno found the back of the net to give the Golden Hurricane a 1-0 edge.
After being held off the scoreboard during the entire first half, Creighton scored three goals in a three minute and 37 second span to take a 3-1 lead less than 15 minutes into the second half.
Haakenson delivered the equalizer in the 53rd minute. Tashiro played a ball to the left of the box to Musa Qongo who sent a cross through the box to Haakenson. The senior recovered the ball and spun over his left shoulder before finding the back of the net inside the left post.
Just over two minutes later sophomore Daniel Espeleta provided the Bluejays their first lead of the match. Qongo sent a long pass down the left side of the box to Espeleta who outlasted the Golden Hurricane defense to find the back of the net and give Creighton a 2-1 lead during the 55th minute.
Haakenson struck the back of the net for his second goal of the night during the 56th minute, less than a minute after Espeleta's go-ahead tally. Sophomore Charles Auguste delivered a pass to the streaking Haakenson giving a one-on-one with Tulsa's goalkeeper. The senior midfielder blasted a shot from 10 yards and into the top of the net to extend Creighton's edge to two goals, 3-1.
Haakenson's performance on Tuesday marked the first multi-goal match of his career. He also doubled his season total to a team-best four.
Tulsa cut the Bluejays' lead in half in the 75th minute and tied the matched during the 87th minute after an incredible individual performance. Creighton's Bryce Gibson battled a Tulsa attacker to a ball down the left-side of the 18-yard box but Harris Partain launched a shot on the run and into the back of the net to knot the match at 3-3.
Bluejay forward Nico Engelking fired the final shot during regulation but his attempt went wide.
Both teams recorded one shot during each overtime period.
Creighton held a slight advantage in shots overall (16-14), while also holding a 5-4 edge in corners. Collin Valdivia, the reigning BIG EAST Goalkeeper of the Week, collected three saves to earn the win.
Tuesday's victory was the Bluejays' first overtime win since Sept. 19, 2017 against Tulsa. Creighton went 0-2-3 during matches decided in overtime last season. The four goals scored were also the most by the Bluejays since Oct. 14, 2017 against Xavier.
Creighton will return to BIG EAST play with a match on Saturday night in Omaha against Villanova. First touch between the Bluejays and Wildcats is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Morrison Stadium.
