Scouting Creighton (6-3-0)
The Bluejays opened the 2019 season in impressive fashion with five victories in their first six matches. During that run Creighton bested Kansas State, Iowa State and Oklahoma, falling just once to Clemson by a 1-0 score on Sept.. 1.
The highlight of the young season has been the play of freshman Skylar Heinrich, who leads the Bluejays with seven goals and 16 points.
Also impressive has been the development of sophomore Katie Sullivan and redshirt freshman Keelan Terrell in the goal. The duo have a combined goals against average (GAA) of 1.11 this season.
Last week the Bluejays completed a grueling stretch of four matches in eight days, including road trips to Kansas City and Florida, with a 2-2-0 mark.
Scouting DePaul (3-4-2)
DePaul is 3-4-2 on the season after starting the year off 0-3-0. The Blue Demons responded with back-to-back 1-0 victories over Dayton on Sept. 1 and #11 Kansas on Sept. 6.
Last week DePaul posted a pair of draws against Bowling Green (1-1) and Samford (0-0) to end non-conference play.
Junior Morgan Turner and freshman Kristin Boos have led the DePaul offense with six points each. Turner holds a team-high three goals, while Boos added two goals and two assists. Defensively, sophomore goalkeeper Mollie Eriksson has allowed nine goals while collecting four shutouts and 30 saves in goal.
Bluejays Open BIG EAST Play Against Blue Demons
Since joining the BIG EAST prior to the 2013 season, Creighton has opened conference play 2-4-0 in the Bluejays' opening BIG EAST battle.
One interesting note is the Bluejays have faced just three opponents to open BIG EAST play, battling Marquette in each of the first four seasons and Xavier in both 2017 and again in 2018. Saturday Creighton faces DePaul, Creighton's third opponent to kick off conference action.
Overall the Bluejays are a combined 12-8-2 in the opening match of conference play. Saturday will mark the fourth time Creighton has opened BIG EAST action at home.
Terrell Named BIG EAST Freshman of the Week
Bluejay freshman goalkeeper Keelan Terrell collected her first BIG EAST honor on Monday, Sept. 23, earning the conference's Freshman of the Week nod.
With goalkeeper Katie Sullivan sidelined, Terrell stepped in for her first career start on Tuesday at Kansas City. Keelan collected a pair of saves to lead Creighton to its sixth win of the season. She then followed with four saves at (RV) Florida Atlantic on Sunday, surrendering just one goal which came in the 82nd minute. For the week Creighton's redshirt freshman went 1-1-0 in two starts.
