AVCA Top 25 Poll
OMAHA, Neb. -- A 3-0 weekend that included a pair of top-15 victories helped the Creighton Volleyball team climb six spots from 23rd to a season-best 17th in the American Volleyball Coaches Association top-25 poll released on Monday, Sept. 9.
Wins over then-No. 12 Kentucky (3-1), defending Missouri Valley Conference champion Northern Iowa (3-2) and then-No. 15 USC (3-1) last weekend in Cedar Falls, Iowa, lifted Creighton's record to 3-2 on the young season and came after losses on the opening weekend to current No. 2 Nebraska and No. 5 Baylor.
This week marks the 41st consecutive week the Bluejays have been ranked, the nation's 10th-longest active streak. The Bluejays have now been ranked in 55 all-time polls, and every poll since Oct. 31, 2016. CU's all-time best ranking in program history is No. 7, which came in the poll released on Aug. 28, 2017.
Stanford remained in the top spot in the national rankings with all 64 first-place votes. Nebraska held steady at No. 2 and is followed in the top-five by Texas, Penn State and Baylor. Creighton's BIG EAST rival, Marquette, climbed to a program-high seventh after a week that included a win at then-No. 4 Wisconsin.
Creighton is 90-24 all-time when playing as a ranked team in the AVCA poll, including a 37-5 mark at home, where the Jays will be the next three weekends.
The Bluejays return to the court with three matches this weekend at the Bluejay Invitational Presented by Embassy Suites - Downtown/Old Market. Creighton hosts Nebraska-Omaha on Friday at 6 p.m. before entertaining Drake and No. 12 Washington on Saturday at Noon and 7:30 p.m., respectively.
