Omaha native tied Bluejay record with four goals Sunday, Delivered both game-winners in 2-0-0 week.
Omaha, Neb. -- Creighton women's soccer freshman Skylar Heinrich (Omaha, Neb.) earned some well deserved recognition on Monday, Sept. 9 as the Bluejay forward was named the BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week as well as the Freshman of the Week.
Heinrich led Creighton to a 2-0-0 week (Sept. 2-8) with five goals, including a pair of game-winners. Down 1-0 on Sunday, Sept. 8 versus Eastern Michigan, Heinrich entered the match in the 20th minute and was more than instant offense as the Bluejays scored on a corner to knot the match at 1-1. Over the next 16 minutes the Creighton forward tied a school record with four goals, including the game-winner in the 23rd minute as she collected the rebound from a shot by senior Ashleigh Cearlock that smacked the crossbar.Â
Â
Heinrich added an unassisted goal in the 24th minute, then found the back of the net again in the 32nd and 36th minute. Her four tallies equaled the most goals scored in a single match in program history. The last time a Bluejay scored four goals in a match came in 2000 as Krystal Campa did so at Belmont on Oct. 15. The other two times that a Bluejay notched four goals in one match both came by Jessica Powers during the 1998 season. In addition Heinrich's efforts were Creighton's first hat trick since 2009 when Brittney Neumann scored three goals against South Dakota on Aug. 28.
Â
On Friday night, Heinrich delivered the decisive goal in the Bluejays' 1-0 over Iowa State in the 88th minute.
Heinrich and the Bluejays (4-1-0) return to the pitch on Sunday, Sept. 15 as Creighton hosts Oklahoma at 1:00 pm in Morrison Stadium.
