Women's Basketball Faces BIG EAST Favorite #16 DePaul on Sunday

Omaha, Neb. -- Wrapping up a string of four games in eight days to open BIG EAST play, the Creighton women's basketball team faces its toughest test on Sunday, Jan. 5th as the Bluejays battle BIG EAST favorite DePaul. Both teams enter the game undefeated in conference action.

Series with DePaul: Bluejays Trail Blue Demons, 13-3
Creighton earned its first victory at DePaul last season, but the Bluejays trail the overall series with the Blue Demons 13-3. Creighton is 2-5 against DePaul in Omaha.

About DePaul
The BIG EAST favorite Blue Demons have met expectations with 12 victories in their first 14 games. DePaul's lone two losses came to top five teams in Oregon State (98-77 on Nov. 14th) and Connecticut (84-74 on Dec. 16th).
The Blue Demons are a high volume offense, led by four players averaging double figures and another at 9.9 ppg. The duo of Chante Stonewall and Sonya Morris lead DePaul with 17.9 ppg and 17.1 ppg respectively. DePaul's starting five average 65.7 ppg, while the team posts 87.9 ppg.
DePaul is beyond adept at sharing the basketball, leading the BIG EAST with 20.7 assists per game. In addition, DePaul forces 24.1 turnovers per game.
If there is a flaw in the Blue Demons' armor it is their defense. DePaul allows its opposition to shoot 48.7 percent from the field (395-of-811).
Scouting Creighton (11-3, 3-0 BIG EAST)
Despite playing with a depleted roster, the Bluejays continue to find ways to capture victories. Creighton enters the battle with DePaul riding a three-game winning streak to open BIG EAST action.
Senior Jaylyn Agnew has been the constant for Creighton this season, averaging 19.9 ppg, while guards Temi Carda (11.2 ppg), Tatum Rembao (11.0 ppg), and Olivia Elger (10.2 ppg) are each averaging double figures.
The Bluejays have turned up their defense this season, limiting opponents to 59.6 ppg. Creighton has not allowed more than 75 points in a game this season and have held six opponents to under 60 points.
Keys To the Game
In Creighton's 72-62 win over Marquette the Bluejays went 0-for-8 from long range in the first half. The last time Creighton went without a trey in a half was the second half of a battle with Villanova during the 2017-18 season. Creighton went 0-for-6 on Feb. 25, 2018 in a 55-48 loss.
The last time the Bluejays went without a three-pointer in a half at home also came during the 2017-18 season, going 0-for-6 in the first half of a 69-58 win over Georgetown on Dec. 30, 2017.

Bluejays Move to 5-0 with Saunders in the Starting Lineup
Bluejays sophomore Rachael Saunders has been pressed into Creighton's starting lineup in five games this season, helping Creighton claim victories in each contest. Saunders started wins over Northern Iowa and Wichita State in the non-conference season, then has been in the starting five for the first three BIG EAST contests.
Bluejay Defense Carrying the Load
A key to Creighton's success this season has been a consistent effort on the defensive end. The Bluejays are limiting opponents to just 59.6 ppg and have held 10 of opponents to 63 points or less. Creighton is 9-1 in those contests, falling only at Drake (63-53) on Nov. 16th.
Making the Most of The Players Available
Opening the 2019-20 season with just 11 healthy players as senior Morgan Turner officially retired (although she is expected to make a brief appearance on senior day) before the season. In addition the Bluejays have had at least one player out due to injury in every contest, giving Creighton a maximum of 10 players available.
