Men's Basketball Now Ranked 13th in Both Polls

OMAHA, Neb. -- The Creighton men's basketball earned its 12th consecutive ranking in the Associated Press poll, coming in at No. 13 in the December 21st poll.

Creighton (6-2, 2-1 BIG EAST) moved down four spots from last week's No. 9 slotting after losing to Marquette and then picking up road wins at St. John's and previously unbeaten UConn.

It's the 101st week in program history that the Bluejays have been ranked, with 73 of those under the direction of Greg McDermott. Creighton is 126-48 all-time as a ranked team, including a 92-36 mark under McDermott. Creighton has been ranked at least one week in eight of McDermott's 11 seasons on The Hilltop after doing it just five different seasons in program history before his 2010 arrival. Creighton's best AP ranking ever was No. 7, which was previously done on Jan. 16, 2017, March 9, 2020 and March 16, 2020.

Creighton is one of 10 schools that have been ranked each of the past 12 polls (since Feb. 3, 2020), joining Baylor, Duke, Florida State, Gonzaga, Houston, Iowa, Kansas, Tennessee and Villanova.

CU is one of three BIG EAST teams that are nationally ranked by the AP this week, joining No. 5 Villanova and No. 22 Xavier.

Creighton, which matched a program-best No. 7 ranking two weeks ago in the USA Today/Coaches poll and was No. 9 last week, is No. 13 in this week's edition.

Creighton plays just one game this week, hosting No. 22 Xavier (8-0, 1-0 BIG EAST) at 2 p.m. on Wednesday in a game that will air on FS1 and 1620 AM.
