About Marquette
Marquette enters the game with Creighton holding seven victories in its last eight games, including an 85-55 win over Providence on Friday night. Picked to finish ninth in the BIG EAST's preseason poll, Marquette has been more than out performed
expectations.
The Golden Eagles offer a balanced scoring attack, featuring three players in double figures. The offensive leader is Selena Lott (15.5 ppg), but Lauren Van Kluenen (1.3 ppg) and Isabelle Spingola (11.2) each are averaging double figures as well.
An area Marquette exploited in the first meeting with the Bluejays was rebounding. The Golden Eagles out rebounded the Bluejays 42-33, including 13 offensive boards. Those numbers led Marquette to a 12-1 edge in second chance points in Omaha.
Â
Scouting Creighton (14-7, 6-4 BIG EAST)
All season long the Bluejays have made a habit of falling behind, only to rally for an improbable win. The victory over #11 DePaul was likely the pinnacle example as Creighton trailed 41-21 at the half, before surging in the second half to take a 63-57 edge. The Bluejays held on for the road win.
The Bluejays have gone 2-2 without their top player Agnew, who averages better than 20 ppg. Although Agnew has been out, the Bluejays got a jolt with the return of junior point guard Tatum Rembao last weekend. In addition, senior Olivia Elger, junior Temi Carda and freshman Carly Bachelor have responded to the challenge by significantly increasing their level of play.
Bachelor posted consecutive double-doubles (her first two as a Bluejay) last weekend to claim the BIG EAST Freshman of the Week, while Carda collected a spot on the BIG EAST honor role by averaging 19.5 ppg against Xavier and Butler. In the win at #11 DePaul it was Elger who shouldered the load with a career-high 28 points.
Agnew's status for Sunday remains uncertain.

Creighton Against Top 25

Since defeating #18 Villanova on Dec. 28, 2017, the Bluejays have collected four

The Bluejays May Get Down, But Don't Count Them Out
In nine of Creighton's 14 wins this season the Bluejays have overcome at least a seven point deficit, four times coming back from double-digits to collect the victory. The largest comeback win came on Friday as the Bluejays rallied from down 22 late in the second quarter to best #11 DePaul 63-61.
Twice during this season Creighton has led wire-to-wire (at UNO & at Villanova), while Creighton did not lead in the losses at Arizona State or at Seton Hall.
Bluejays Deliver DePaul's First Loss to a BIG EAST Team in Wintrust
In its third season playing in Wintrust Arena the DePaul Blue Demons were 17-3 with losses to only UConn (twice) and Notre Dame (once) entering the game with Creighton on Jan. 31st. DePaul had claimed consecutive BIG EAST Tournament titles in the facility and been 10-0 against conference foes. That changed on Friday as the Bluejays claimed the first win for a BIG EAST team as well as the first win for an unranked squad with a 63-61 win over the Blue Demons.

About Marquette
- Located in Milwaukee, Wis.
- Marquette lost all five starters from a team that won the BIG EAST last season, closing 2018-19 with a 27-8 record. The Golden Eagles did return five letter winners from the NCAA tournament squad last season.
- Marquette also made a change at the coaching helm, new leader Megan Duffy came from Miami (OH). She has a combined record of 54-11 in three seasons.
Marquette enters the game with Creighton holding seven victories in its last eight games, including an 85-55 win over Providence on Friday night. Picked to finish ninth in the BIG EAST's preseason poll, Marquette has been more than out performed

Keys To the Game
- Rebounding: Creighton has been out rebounded in 14 of its 21 games, yet the Bluejays have gone 9-5 in those contests. Typically undersized, the Bluejays have to work diligently at both ends to stay in contention. That will be specifically true against a Marquette squad that has great size and length.
- Ball Handling/Distribution: Despite a season-high 23 turnovers against #11 DePaul on Friday, the Bluejays allowed the Blue Demons just three steals. The first meeting with Marquette saw both teams finish with 21 assists, yet Creighton
- committed just six turnovers.
- Injuries: Friday saw the return of sophomore Rachael Saunders for the Bluejays. If either Jaylyn Agnew or Payton Brotzki are cleared to play on Sunday it will help distribute minutes for a tired Bluejay core and could ease the scoring burden
Creighton Against Top 25
The Bluejays are 2-1 this season against teams ranked in the AP Top-25, including a 63-61 win over #11 DePaul on Jan. 31st. That was the Bluejays first win over a team ranked as high as #11, with the previous best coming last season against #13 Marquette in Omaha (March 1, 2019).
Since defeating #18 Villanova on Dec. 28, 2017, the Bluejays have collected four
victories over squads in the Top-20. During head coach Jim Flanery's 18 years at the helm for the Bluejays, Creighton is 9-34 against the Top-25 teams.
