Alexander And Zegarowski Earn All-BIG EAST Honors

Bluejay guards have both scored 500 or more points
NEW YORK, N.Y. -- Creighton men's basketball guards Ty-Shon Alexander and Marcus Zegarowski have been honored by the BIG EAST in a vote of league basketball coaches.
Alexander was a First Team All-BIG EAST selection, and Zegarowski brought home Second Team All-BIG EAST accolades.
Alexander leads Creighton with 16.9 points per game and 41 steals while also ranking among the best on the Bluejay team in rebounds per game (5.0), minutes per game (34.7), assists (72) and three-pointers (81). The Charlotte, N.C., native ranks in the top-10 in the BIG EAST in free throw percentage (2nd), points per game (3rd), minutes per game (4th), three-pointers made per game (4th), three-point percentage (6th), and in steals per game (8th). Alexander heads to the BIG EAST Tournament ranked 25th in CU history with 1,241 career points. The junior has consistently held down some of the league's top perimeter threats while becoming CU's defensive stopper. Last year Alexander was an Honorable Mention All-BIG EAST choice.
Zegarowski leads Creighton with 5.0 assists per game and is second on the team in scoring (16.1 ppg.) and steals (34). The sophomore from Hamilton, Mass., ranks third in the BIG EAST in assists per game, third in three-point percentage, fifth in assist/turnover ratio, sixth in three-pointers per game, sixth in points per game, sixth in minutes per game and 11th in field goal percentage. He is the sixth sophomore in Creighton history to score 500 or more points. Zegarowski helped Creighton clinch a share of the BIG EAST title yesterday, leading the Bluejays in points (23), rebounds (6) and assists (5) in a 77-60 victory.
The All-BIG EAST First Team features unanimous selections Saddiq Bey (Villanova), Markus Howard (Marquette) and Myles Powell (Seton Hall). Joining those three on the First Team are Alexander, Kamar Baldwin (Butler) and Naji Marshall (Xavier).
The BIG EAST Player of the Year will come from the All-BIG EAST First Team. The conference will announce Player of the Year, Coach of the Year, Freshman of the Year and the BIG EAST Men's Basketball Scholar-Athlete of the Year on Wednesday, March 11. The press conference will be held on the first day of the BIG EAST Tournament Presented by Jeep at Madison Square Garden at 3:30 p.m. Central.

Other league individual awards -- BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Year, Most Improved Player, Sixth Man Award and Sportsmanship Award -- will be announced Monday, March 9.
Ranked 11th nationally, Creighton (24-7, 13-5 BIG EAST) earned a share of its first BIG EAST title on Saturday with a victory over No. 8 Seton Hall. The Bluejays will be the top seed in the BIG EAST Tournament Presented by Jeep and play on FS1 on Thursday at 11 a.m. Central against the winner of Wednesday night's First Round match-up between Georgetown and St. John's.
