Men's Basketball Adds To 2020 Recruiting Class; Signs Modestas Kancleris

Lithuanian forward will bolster Bluejay front line
OMAHA, Neb. -- Modestas Kancleris has signed a letter-of-intent with the Creighton University men's basketball program. Kancleris is a 6-foot-9 forward from Kaunas, Lithuania.

"Modestas is an athletic, skilled, and versatile wing that will blend perfectly into our system," said Creighton head coach Greg McDermott. "He has a tremendous amount of experience with his national team and has trained with one of the best basketball clubs in Europe, Zalgiris. We are excited to add him to our 2020 recruiting class."

Modestas Kancleris
- A 6'9" forward from Kaunas, Lithuania.
- Has played and developed with European powerhouse, BC Zalgiris, the past four years.
- Named to the All-Star team at the 2019 adidas Next Generation Tournament, where he averaged 13.2 points and 8.0 rebounds per game.
- Was a key member for the U16 and U18 Lithuanian National Teams.
- Averaged 4.8 points and 4.5 rebounds despite battling a sprained ankle during six games with the Lithuanian national team at the 2019 FIBA under-18 European Championship, including a 14 point game vs. Russia and an 11 point showing vs. Serbia.
- At the 2017 FIBA under-16 European Championship, Kancleris averaged 9.1 points and 6.9 rebounds in seven games, with a high of 16 points vs. Croatia.
- Competed in the Jordan Brand Classic, NBA Basketball Without Borders, adidas Eurocamp and NBAPA Top 100 Camp.
- Will be Creighton's second Lithuanian in program history.
Kancleris joins incoming freshmen Ryan Kalkbrenner (St. Louis, Mo.) and Sami Osmani (Oak Lawn, Ill.), as well as Duke transfer Alex O'Connell (Roswell, Ga.) as newcomers to the 2020-21 roster.
Creighton finished the 2019-20 season with a 24-7 record, winning a share of its first BIG EAST title. The Bluejays were ranked seventh in the year-end Associated Press poll. Early preseason polls have Creighton as a potential top-10 team for the 2020-21 season.
