Creighton Athletics set to host week-long celebration of female student-athletes
It's time to HUDDLE UP around your phones, laptops or tablets! Creighton Athletics will host its annual Leaders for Life event in an online celebration of its female student-athletes and their supporters. Join Creighton Athletics online June 1-5 to connect with our coaches, players and the 2020 Honorees.
An annual event hosted in the spring by Creighton Athletics, Leaders for Life raises important funds for annual and endowed scholarships for female student-athletes. While this year's event had to be modified due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Creighton Athletics and the Leaders for Life committee remained committed to sharing the incredible stories from its female student-athletes, coaches and the 2020 Honorees – Lisa Chipps and Anne McGuire.
The week will feature social media posts on the GoCreighton Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and YouTube pages with various fun facts and videos. Creighton female student-athletes are more than just athletes; they are outstanding students, engaged community volunteers and future professionals and leaders in their communities.
Throughout the week at 11:00 AM and 12:00 PM, you will hear from two female student-athletes as they share their story about a specific part of Creighton that has impacted them. These young women are outstanding athletes, but this week will focus on their achievements off the playing field and what it means to be a leader at Creighton.
On Wednesday, June 3 at 11:00 AM and 12:00 PM, join us in honoring Anne McGuire and Lisa Chipps, this year's event honorees.
Lisa Chipps, Ed.D., Director of Academic Services and Senior Woman Administrator for Creighton Athletics, will be recognized with the Leaders for Life Award. Lisa earned this honor because she empowers student-athletes to shine and succeed. She is a driving force behind the excellent academic experience all students-athletes receive—including nearly 175 females—and Creighton's enviable graduation rate of 96 percent, which ranks in the top 10 percent of all Division I institutions.
Anne McGuire will accept the Believe and Achieve Award. Anne is a Creighton alumna, member of the Creighton Jaybacker Executive Board and Leaders for Life Committee. A retired nurse, Anne has exemplified true leadership in her family, community, professional career, and most notably, as the chair of the Omaha Public Power District board of directors. Anne's impact on Creighton Women's Athletics extends back to the 1970s when it first began, and her investment in and dedication to all Bluejay student-athletes continues today.
We look forward to seeing you next week as #JaysHuddleUp to celebrate #LeadersForLife2020.
