Ten individuals from the women's team earned scholar-athlete awards
TEMPE, Ariz. -- The Creighton women's tennis teams claimed a 2020 Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) All-Academic Team award and 10 individuals from the women's team earned scholar-athlete awards, the ITA announced on Tuesday.Â
The Bluejay women accumulated a 3.82 GPA during the spring and 3.78 last fall. This is the 13th straight year that Creighton has attained ITA All-Academic Team recognition on the women's side. In addition to its ITA award, the women's tennis program claimed its ninth consecutive APR Public Recognition Award in May.
This is the fourth straight year that Kendra Lavallee was recognized and third in a row for Erin Epperson. Hauling in a second consecutive honor were Meredith Benson, Laura Higueras, Gabby O'Connor and Sarah Wilcox. Earning their first ITA Scholar-Athlete Award were Julia Aguirre, Julia King, Katherine Krueger and Kristal Kuo.
Creighton's 10 scholar-athletes were the most among the BIG EAST women's tennis programs and tied for second-most nationally, trailing only Harvard's 12.
This year the ITA saw an increase in qualifying teams and scholar-athletes. All-Academic honors were awarded to 244 teams and 1,430 of scholar-athletes at the Division I level.
All-Academic teams boast a team GPA of 3.20 or higher. ITA scholar-athletes must meet the following criteria: 1.) have a grade point average of at least 3.50 (on a 4.00 scale) for the current academic year, and 3.) be listed on the institutional eligibility form.
