Men's Basketball Moves to 11th in Top 25 Polls

OMAHA, Neb. -- Following an overtime road loss on Saturday at Butler, the Creighton men's basketball team slipped three spots to No. 11 in this week's Associated Press poll.

The poll saw several major changes after the teams ranked between No. 3 and No. 14 in last week's poll combined for just six wins a week ago.

With Duke dropping out of today's poll, Creighton (10-3, 6-2 BIG EAST) remains one of eight schools that have been ranked each of the past 16 AP polls (since Feb. 3, 2020), joining Baylor, Gonzaga, Houston, Iowa, Kansas, Tennessee and Villanova. The 16 straight weeks in the rankings is one shy of the program record of 17 straight weeks, done from Feb. 27, 2012 - Feb. 4, 2013.

It's the 105th week in program history that the Bluejays have been ranked, with 77 of those under the direction of McDermott. Creighton is 130-49 all-time as a ranked team, including a 96-37 mark under McDermott. Creighton has been ranked at least one week in eight of McDermott's 11 seasons on The Hilltop after doing it just five different seasons in program history before his 2010 arrival.

Creighton's best rank in program history is No. 7, done four times (Jan. 16, 2017, March 9, 2020, March 16, 2020 and Jan. 4, 2021).

CU is one of three BIG EAST teams that are nationally ranked by the AP this week, joining No. 3 Villanova and No. 23 Connecticut. Xavier is among those getting votes.

In the Ferris Mowers Coaches Poll, Creighton also dropped three spots into the No. 11 position. Villanova is third in this week's coaches poll. UConn and Xavier are once again receiving votes.

Creighton has a pair of home games this week, beginning with Wednesday's 8 p.m. contest vs. Providence that will be televised on FS1 and can be heard on 1620 AM.
