Bluejays will compete in the Midwest Division of the BIG EAST
The BIG EAST will be split into two divisions for the 2021 spring season – the Midwest Division and the East Division. Creighton will compete in the five-team Midwest division, along with Butler, DePaul, Marquette and Xavier. The Bluejays are slated to play home and home matches against each divisional opponent (eight matches). The East division will comprise of six teams (Connecticut, Georgetown, Providence, St. John's, Seton Hall and Villanova) and each team will play 10 league matches (home and home against each East Division opponent). Both divisional schedules have two built in make-up dates for rescheduling purposes if needed.
The Spring 2021 BIG EAST Championship presented by JEEP is scheduled to take place April 14-17 and will be hosted by the highest overall seed across both divisions. The championship will consist of four teams, the top two from each division.
Before facing outside competition, Creighton will open the 2021 campaign with its Blue-White scrimmage on Feb. 17 at Morrison Stadium.
The regular season is slated to begin on Feb. 20 as the Bluejays travel to Marquette to open BIG EAST action.
The Bluejays return to Omaha for a home exhibition contest on Feb. 24 against Central Methodist, the two-time defending NAIA national champion. The CMU Eagles are based out of Fayette, Missouri.
Creighton will travel down Dodge Street to face city foe Nebraska-Omaha on Feb. 27 at Caniglia Field before the Bluejays play their first regular season home match on March 3 against Drake, which will mark the first regular season match at Morrison Stadium for Torres' squad since Nov. 2, 2019 against Butler.
Creighton's four BIG EAST home matches are scheduled for March 6 (Xavier), March 17 (Butler), March 20 (Marquette) and April 3 (DePaul).
In addition to the Creighton's three other BIG EAST road matches (March 13 at DePaul, March 24 at Xavier, April 10 at Butler), the Bluejays will travel to Swope Park in Kansas City, Missouri to face Missouri State in a neutral site match on March 28.
The NCAA Division I Board of Directors announced that the NCAA bracket will be filled at 75 percent of its normal capacity (36 teams instead of 48; 24 auto bids and 12 at-large selection). The NCAA Division I Men's Soccer Selection Show will take place on April 18 and the College Cup is scheduled for May 13-17 in Cary, North Carolina.
Allowing fans at Creighton's home matches at Michael G. Morrison, S.J., Stadium is being evaluated to determine if the benefits provided to limited fans outweighs the additional costs associated with increased safety measures and the inherent risks involved. More information on this matter will be released at a later date.
