Cross Country Teams Finish 13th at Gans Creek Classic

Bluejays are led by Marcos Gonzalez and Danielle Hotalling
COLUMBIA, Mo. --Â Both the Creighton men's and women's cross country teams finished in 13th place on Friday morning at the Gans Creek Classic in Columbia, Mo.
Sophomore Marcos Gonzalez paced the Bluejay men for the first time in his career as he traversed the 8K Gans Creek XC Course in a time of 25:16.9. He improved from 98th at the midpoint of the race to his final placing of 64th. Senior John Quigley, CU's top finisher in each of its previous three competitions, wasn't far behind in 70th place with a time of 25:23.1.
Freshman Ryan Montera continued the strong start to his career with a 93rd-place showing (25:44.0), edging out teammate Jack Larsen (94th, 25:45.5) by one-half a second.
Danny Bohnemann turned in a time of 26:05.1 that was good for 114th place to round out CU's scoring contingent.
Texas A&M's Eric Casarez topped the field of 188 competitors by 16 seconds with a time of 23:36.5 to defeat SEC rival William Sinclair from host Missouri. North Florida scored 72 points to win the team title by a dozen points over Wichita State. The race included 16 teams overall.
Highlighting the showing by the Creighton women was senior Danielle Hotalling, who placed 19th on the 6K course in a time of 21:32.5. Only five women in Creighton history have run faster for a 6K race. It was the 17th time in as many collegiate starts that she's been Creighton's top finisher.
Marguerite Hendrickson was CU's second-best finisher, crossing the finish line in a time of 22:56.6 to place 71st.
Freshmen Aby Parker (89th; 23:14.9) and Kat Shein (92nd; 23:21.6) finished just seven seconds apart, and Ashley Riley (101st; 23:39.9) wasn't far behind.
Wichita State senior Yazmine Wright won the women's race by nine seconds over Missouri's Sarah Chapman (21:02.7) as they topped the field of 157 entrants.
The women's team title went to Texas A&M with 64 points, narrowly edging host Missouri (67) by three points. The women's race featured 17 teams.
Creighton returns to the course in two weeks on Oct. 15 for the Bradley Pink Classic in Peoria, Ill.
