Star freshman paced the league's only unbeaten team last week
OMAHA, Neb. -- Norah Sis has been named BIG EAST Freshman of the Week after leading Creighton Volleyball to a pair of wins last weekend. It's the second time this season she's been honored with the award after picking up the recognition on Sept. 6 as well.
Sis averaged 5.21 points, 5.00 kills, 2.57 digs and 0.43 blocks per set while hitting .355 as Creighton moved to the top of the BIG EAST standings with victories over DePaul (3-0) and Marquette (3-1).
Â
The Papillion product led Creighton (17-2, 5-1 BIG EAST) in kills in both matches, including 13 kills on .265 hitting in a 3-0 win vs. DePaul on Friday.
Â
The freshman phenom then had a career-high 22 kills in Sunday's win over first-place Marquette, adding 14 digs and three blocks on .429 hitting. Sis put the Jays up 2-0 with a kill on set point in the second set and finished the match with nine kills in the fourth set while also authoring a late 5-0 serving run that got the Jays to match point.
Â
Sis became the fourth Bluejay freshman ever with at least three matches of 20 or more kills in a season, and first since 2015 BIG EAST Freshman of the Year Jaali Winters.
Marquette's Taylor Wolf was named the league's Offensive Player of the Week and Xavier's Ellie Chaffee recognized as Defensive Player of the Week. Creighton's Jaela Zimmerman was named to the league's honor roll after averaging 4.57 kills, 3.86 digs and 0.86 blocks per set.
Creighton hits the road this weekend for a pair of matches, playing at UConn on Saturday at 2:30 p.m. Central before meeting Providence at Noon on Sunday. Both matches will air on FloSports.
