Cross Country Teams Compete at BIG EAST Championships

Creighton men take eigth, women ninth place
CARMEL, Ind. -- The Creighton men's cross country team placed eighth and the women ninth at the 2021 BIG EAST Championships, presented by JEEP on Friday at the Northview Church Course in Carmel, Ind. Both the Butler men and Georgetown women posted their second straight conference titles.
John Quigley led Creighton for the fourth time in five meets this fall, finishing in 41st place with a time of 26:22.7. Freshman Ryan Montera was just a few seconds behind with a time of 26:25.2 to take 44th overall.
Aidan King came in 53rd with a clocking of 26:52.1, three seconds ahead of Marcos Gonzalez (26:55.6), who was 55th.
Rounding out the Bluejay scoring contingent was Danny Bohnemann, who was 59th with a time of 27:04.2, as the Bluejays finished eighth for the fourth consecutive season.
Other Creighton student-athletes who competed included Tommy Ward (65th; 27:24.9), Michael Buckley (70th; 27:46.2), Henry Slagle (76th; 28:16.2), Jack Larsen (81st, 28:34.4) and Boston Small (82nd; 28:52.3).
Danielle Hotalling paced the Creighton women for the 19th time in as many career meets as she took 27th after a time of 22:15.0 on the 6K course.
Marguerite Hendrickson was CU's No. 2 runner for the seventh straight race, earning a 45th-place showing with a time of 23:05.0.
Caroline Colburn was 61st with a clocking of 23:47.4, just ahead of the Bluejay trio of Abby Parker (71st; 24:21.3), Ashley Riley (72nd; 24:24.6) and Kat Shein (73rd, 24:26.7
Other Bluejays included Morgan Koca (85th; 25:08.8), Caroline Jachino (87th, 25:37.1), Liz Kettler (93rd; 26:32.9) and Kate Cox (94th; 26:43.0).
Butler's Simon Bedard was the men's individual winner with a time of 23:58.6 in muddy conditions over the 8K distance to lead the field of 87 participants. Georgetown's Maggie Donahue used a ferocious kick in the final 150 meters to win the women's 6K in a time of 20:47.8 and top 97 entrants.
Creighton returns to the course on Friday, Nov. 12 at the NCAA Midwest Regional.
