Cross Country Closes Fall Season at Midwest Regional

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- The Creighton men's cross country team took 23rd and the Bluejay women placed 26th at the NCAA Midwest Regional on Friday, Nov. 12 in Iowa City.
John Quigley led the Bluejays with a 65th place finishing, running the 10K Ashton Cross Country Championship course in 31:58.94.
Freshman Ryan Montera took 125th place to finish his first Regional in 32:57.18, just ahead of teammate Aidan King (134th; 33:07.79). Jack Larsen earned a 138th place showing after finishing in a time of 33:11.37, while Marcos Gonzalez traversed the course in 33:51.33 to place 168th.
Oklahoma State won the 28-team men's race with a team score of 43, just ahead of Iowa State's 57. Creighton's 23rd place showing saw the Jays finish two spots ahead of a DePaul squad that was three spots ahead of the Bluejays at the BIG EAST Championships two weeks ago. Iowa State's Wesley Kiptoo won the 10K race by three seconds with a time of 30:17.81.
Danielle Hotalling paced the Creighton women for the 20th time in as many career races as she took 91st after a time of 22:11.32 on the 6K course. Just three seconds behind was Marguerite Hendrickson (22:14.41) in 97th place, as the senior improved her time from the BIG EAST Championship by more than 50 seconds. It was Hendrickson's eighth straight meet as CU's No. 2 runner.
Caroline Colburn placed 157th with a clocking of 23:05.08 and Morgan Koca 171st after crossing the finish line in 23:21.21.
Junior Ashley Riley was 186th in 23:36.76, just ahead of freshman teammates Abby Parker (194th; 23:44.88) and Kat Shein (196th; 23:52.04).
Minnesota won the team title on the women's side in the field of 32 squads with a score of 45, defeating Oklahoma State's 75. Creighton placed 26th with 492 points, just behind league rival DePaul. Iowa State's Cailie Logue won the women's title in a race of 223 participants as she crossed the finish line in a time of 20:45.08, which was 1.19 seconds faster than Oklahoma State standout Taylor Roe. Logue won her third-straight Midwest Region title and got her second win of 2021, and 11th of her decorated career.
The competition ends the fall season for both Creighton programs.
