Freshman helped CU go 2-1 last week
OMAHA, Neb. -- Creighton Men's Basketball freshman Ryan Nembhard has been named the BIG EAST Freshman of the Week for the second time in as many weeks this season.
Nembhard averaged 15.7 points, 4.7 assists, 4.3 rebounds and 1.7 steals per game while helping Creighton to a 2-1 week. He shot 53.3 percent from the field (16-30), including 63.6 percent from deep (7-11), as well as 66.7 percent (8-12) at the line.
Â
The Aurora, Ontario, Canada native opened his week with 22 points, five rebounds and five assists in a win at Nebraska. His 22 points were the most by any Bluejay in their first career game vs. Nebraska in more than 40 years, and he also had CU's first 20/5/5 game by a freshman in 40+ years.
Â
Three days later in the U.S. Virgin Islands, Nembhard had 10 points, four rebounds and four assists in a 78-57 win at Brown. He then added 15 points, five assists and four rebounds vs. Colorado State last night.
Â
He is Creighton's third freshman in the last 27 years to produce five straight double-figure scoring efforts to open the season, joining Doug McDermott and Justin Patton.
Creighton (4-1) meets Southern Illinois tonight at 4:45 p.m. Central in the third-place game of the Paradise Jam. The game will air on ESPN3 and can be heard on KOZN "1620 The Zone".
