Creighton enters the postseason as a national seed for the fourth time in seven seasons
OMAHA, Neb. -- The Creighton Volleyball team will enter the postseason with the nation's No. 8 RPI and a No. 20 ranking in the final regular-season edition of the American Volleyball Coaches Association Top 25 Coaches Poll.
That's a four-spot improvement in the RPI for Creighton, which also climbed up two spots in the AVCA voting.
The Bluejays, winners of 13 straight, own a nation-best 30 victories as it enters its 10th straight NCAA Tournament. The Bluejays improved to 30-3 overall with 3-0 sweeps over the weekend against DePaul and Marquette to clinch the program's seventh BIG EAST Tournament title in the past eight seasons. Creighton also leads the nation with 93 set victories, 12 true road wins and 19 wins away from home.
Â
The Bluejays, who have been as high as No. 16 this season in the AVCA poll, have now been ranked in each of the last 13 weeks and 90 times in program history. That figure ranks 47th-most in history. CU's all-time best ranking in program history is No. 7, which came in the poll released on Aug. 28, 2017. Creighton is 144-34 all-time when playing as a ranked team in the AVCA poll, including a 65-9 mark in home matches. This is the 10th straight season that Creighton has spent at least one week in the top-25, extending another program record.
Marquette remains just outside the top-25 in the AVCA poll, coming in third among those "also receiving votes". The Golden Eagles are 26-5 overall and own an RPI of 16.
Creighton returns to the floor on Thursday at 7 pm when it hosts Ole Miss in the First Round of the 2021 NCAA Tournament. CU earned the No. 14 national seed from the selection committee, the fourth time in the past seven seasons the Bluejays have earned a national seed.
