Omaha, Neb. -- Creighton Baseball and the Omaha community mourn the passing of former Bluejay Kimera Bartee (1972-2021), who passed away on Monday.
Part of the Creighton Baseball squad that reached the 1991 College World Series, Bartee was a 14th round selection by the Baltimore Orioles during the 1993 draft. A Bluejay from 1991-93, Bartee helped guide Creighton back to the NCAA Tournament in 1992 and his 27 stolen bases during the 1993 season remains in Creighton's Top-10 for a single season.
Bartee went on to play in the Major Leagues for the Detroit Tigers (1996-99), the Cincinnati Reds (2000) and the Colorado Rockies (2001). Bartee remained involved in the game after his playing career ended, returning to the MLB ranks as a coach with the Pittsburgh Pirates from 2017-19, then for the Philadelphia Phillies in 2020. He returned to the Detroit last season (2021) as the Tigers' first base coach.
Kimera Bartee is the son of Jerry Bartee, who was the head coach of the Creighton Baseball program from 1978-80.
