Women's Basketball Rolls In BIG EAST Opener, 64-38, Over Georgetown

Omaha, Neb. -- The Creighton women's basketball team raced to a 16-0 lead to start the game and never trailed in a 64-38 victory over Georgetown to open BIG EAST play on Friday, Dec. 3, at CHI Health Center Omaha.
Creighton improved to 4-2 (1-0 BIG EAST) with its third straight win, while Georgetown dropped to 3-4 (0-1 BIG EAST) following a second consecutive setback.
The Bluejays' 16-0 run to start the game began with a three-pointer from sophomore Lauren Jensen in the opening minute. Senior Tatum Rembao followed with five straight, then sophomore Morgan Maly connected on back-to-back treys to make it 14-0 (5:01). Maly connected on a pair of free throws to cap the surge. Georgetown's first bucket came with 4:30 remaining in the opening quarter, getting a layup from Shanniah Wright.
Creighton went on to lead 21-7 after one period, yet Georgetown chipped away at the Bluejay edge in the second quarter. The Hoyas got as close as eight points (27-19) with 3:07 left in the first half, but the Bluejays dropped in the final four points to claim a 31-19 lead at halftime.
The Bluejays opened the second half with another run, scoring the first seven points on interior buckets by junior Carly Bachelor, sophomore Emma Ronsiek and a three-ball from Jensen. The result was Creighton's largest lead of the game at 38-19 (7:30).
Creighton pushed its lead to as much as 26 points at 62-36 (1:47) and went on to claim the BIG EAST win.
Maly led a balanced Bluejay offense with 12 points and shared team-high rebounding honors with six. Ronsiek and Bachelor both topped double-figures as well with 11 and 10 points respectively.
Georgetown was paced by Wright, who shot 5-for-5 from the field en route to a career-high 13 points.
The Bluejays return to action on Sunday at 1:00 pm, when they host Villanova at D.J. Sokol Arena.
