Women's Basketball Falls to Marquette, 66-53

Omaha, Neb. -- The Creighton women's basketball team dropped a 66-53 decision to Marquette on Monday, Feb. 1.
The loss moved the Bluejays to 4-7 on the season and 3-4 in BIG EAST play, while the Golden Eagles climbed to 11-2 overall and 8-1 in conference action.
Creighton got off to a strong start, scoring the first five points in the contest. The 5-0 lead, however, slipped away as the Bluejays committed eight turnovers in the opening frame, to trail 10-8 after the first quarter.
The game remained close throughout the second quarter, but Marquette held the Bluejays at bay. In the closing moments of the half, a short jumper from freshman Molly Mogensen brought Creighton within a point at 24-23 (1:26). At the half, Marquette held a 26-23 edge.
The Golden Eagles pulled away in the third with 28 points in the third quarter alone, pushing their edge to 16 at 54-38 heading to the fourth.
Down by as much as 20 (58-38), the Bluejays rallied to get within single-digits in the final two minutes, but it wasn't enough.
Freshman Emma Ronsiek led the Bluejays with 16 points and eight rebounds, while Mogensen closed the game with 13 points.
Marquette got a game-high 27 points from Camryn Taylor, the Golden Eagle was 12-of-14 from the floor.
Creighton returns to the floor on Saturday, Feb. 6 as the Bluejays host Villanova at 1:00 pm.
