Maly and Rembao lead Bluejays to 77-76 Overtime Win at Seton Hall

South Orange, N.J. -- Down by as much as 14 points in the second half, freshman Morgan Maly and senior Tatum Rembao led the Creighton women's basketball team to a 77-76 win in overtime at Seton Hall on Saturday, Feb. 13.
The win moved the Bluejays to 5-8 on the season and 4-5 in BIG EAST action, while Seton Hall fell to 9-5 overall and 7-4 in conference play.
The game turned in Creighton's favor in the third quarter with just over six minutes left. Down 43-29 (6:09) a 5-0 spurt gave the Bluejays life. Sophomore Carly Bachelor delivered an interior bucket, then Rembao connected from long-range to make it 43-34 (5:12). Seton Hall responded to push its advantage back to 13 at 47-34 (4:08), but the confidence paid dividends for Creighton.
Over the final four minutes of the third quarter Maly asserted herself in dominate fashion, leading Creighton on 15-5 run, with 11 of the Bluejays' 15 points herself. Carda started the Creighton run with a trifecta from the corner, following a Creighton stop Maly cut to the bucket for the easy deuce (47-39 with 3:34 left). The Pirates tried to stop the surge with a layup, but Maly responded with a triple from the top of the key. After a free-throw from sophomore DeArica Pryor, Maly delivered a traditional three-point play to get Creighton within three at 49-46 (1:15). Once more Seton Hall tried to stop the Bluejays with a three-ball of their own, Maly calmly drained another triple from the left wing to send the contest to the fourth with Creighton down 52-49.
Down 55-52 with 8:09 in regulation, Creighton claimed the lead for the first time since early in the first period (9-7) with seven straight points. Freshman Emma Ronsiek delivered a bucket on the inside to start the surge, Rembao delivered the final five Bluejay points to give Creighton a 59-55 advantage (5:11). Rembao went on to score 10 of Creighton's final 12 points in regulation.
In overtime the Bluejays seemed to take control on a three-ball from Maly to seize a 75-70 lead with 1:36 left, but the Pirates converted on their next three possessions to grab a 76-75 edge with just 18 seconds remaining in overtime. The Bluejays turned to their senior point guard. The Colorado native drove left, turned back to the right and converted at the rim through contact to give the Bluejays the win.
Maly led the Bluejays with a career-high 20 points in the game, including 11 in the third quarter alone. Rembao finished with 18 points, while senior Temi Carda delivered 12 points.
Seton Hall got a game-high 25 points from Desiree Elmore as well as 15 points from Lauren Park-Lane. Andra Espinoza-Hunter finished with seven points and a game-high 15 rebounds, but was 3-of-17 from the field.
Creighton continues a season-long four-game road trip on Monday as the Bluejays face Georgetown at 3:00 pm (CT).
