Men's Tennis Concludes Weekend Trip With Sweep of UIC, 7-0

AURORA, Ill. -- The Creighton men's tennis team concluded its trip to Chicago with a 7-0 sweep of UIC on Sunday at the Rush Copley Tennis Center in Aurora, Illinois.
The Bluejays finished 2-1 during the weekend with wins over the Flames on Sunday and Chicago State on Friday.
Stratton Brown and Joe Hoff paired up for a 6-1 win at the top doubles position, while Mac Mease and Shin Inoue claimed a 6-2 decision at the No. 3 slot as the Bluejays earned the first point of the day.
Creighton controlled singles action with five straight-sets wins and one three-set victory.
Hoff started the winning ways with a 6-2, 6-3 victory at the No. 5 position for his first singles win of the year. Matthew Lanahan dropped only four games at the No. 2 slot for a 6-3, 6-1 win, and Stratton Brown earned a 6-4, 6-1 victory in the No. 1 match to clinch the team triumph.
Mease and Inoue each won their first singles matches of the season. Mease sealed a three-set win (6-0, 4-6, 6-2) at No. 6, while Inoue won 7-6 (5), 6-2 at the No. 3 slot.
Armando Gandini won in straight sets at No. 4, 6-3, 7-5 to even his season singles record to 2-2.
"We challenged the guys to come out with a lot of energy after last night and they did just that," graduate assistant coach Aaron Chalstrom said. "It would've been easy for us to feel sorry for ourselves after an emotional match last night. I'm proud of how we responded this morning. We'll take some time off and then get back to work to prepare for next weekend."
Creighton is scheduled to host three matches next weekend. The Bluejays will host crosstown foe Nebraska-Omaha on Friday at 7 p.m., Augustana on Saturday at 3 p.m. and Air Force on Sunday at 11 a.m. All three matches are slated to be played at the Hanscom Indoor Tennis Center.
