Cross Country Teams Return To Course With Strong Showing in Louisville

Bluejays battle chilly conditions in first race in 15 months
LOUISVILLE, Neb. -- After nearly 15 months away from competition, the Creighton men's and women's cross country teams returned to the course on Saturday, Feb. 20th when it hosted the Creighton Winter Classic on the Louisville State Recreation Area road course in Louisville, Neb.
Competing against post-collegiate runners from Lincoln Running Company and Kansas City Smoke, the Bluejays dominated both races.
On the women's side Danielle Hotalling topped a field of 11 entrants, crossing the finish line on the 6K course in 21:29.6. That was good enough to beat her junior teammate and runner-up Marguerite Hendrickson by 32 seconds and freshman Morgan Koca by 45.1 seconds.
Creighton sophomore Ashley Riley (23:05.3) placed fourth, two spots ahead of Bluejay freshmen Jessica Barich (23:16.9) and Caroline Colburn (23:24.2).
After redshirting the 2019 season, Chase Howard ran with a purpose to finish in second place in the men's competition, crossing the 8K finish line with a time of 24:28.6. That was good enough to edge out teammates such as junior John Quigley (24:40.2), freshman Marcos Gonzalez (24:42.9) and sophomore Danny Bohnemann (24:45.0). Junior teammate Bryce Shirley placed 10th with a time of 26:08.4.
Former Kansas State standout Joe Moore won the men's race with a time of 23:56.3. That race featured 17 competitors.
Creighton's only other competition currently on the schedule will be the BIG EAST Championships, which is scheduled for March 5 in Cary, N.C.
