Men's Basketball Keeps Top 25 Ranking; Now 19th in AP Poll

OMAHA, Neb. -- The Creighton men's basketball team moved to 19th in this week's Associated Press Top 25 poll, dropping four spots from last week's No. 15 position.

Creighton's 19 straight weeks in the rankings extends the program record. The Bluejays remain one of six schools that have been ranked each of the past 19 AP polls (since Feb. 3, 2020), joining Gonzaga (90), Villanova (35), Baylor (32), Houston (21) and Iowa (21). Kansas dropped out of this week's poll for the first time since January of 2009 after a record 231 straight weeks.

Creighton's move in the poll follows a 1-1 week that saw the Bluejays lose to Georgetown on Wednesday before rebounding with a 71-68 victory at Marquette on Saturday.

This is the 108th week in program history that the Bluejays have been ranked, with 80 of those under the direction of McDermott. Creighton is 134-51 all-time as a ranked team, including a 100-39 mark under McDermott. Creighton has been ranked at least one week in eight of McDermott's 11 seasons on The Hilltop after doing it just five different seasons in program history before his 2010 arrival.

Creighton's best rank in program history is No. 7, done four times (Jan. 16, 2017, March 9, 2020, March 16, 2020 and Jan. 4, 2021).

CU is one of two BIG EAST teams that are nationally ranked by the AP this week, joining No. 5 Villanova. Xavier and St. John's are among those getting votes.

CU is also tied for 17th place in the Ferris Mowers Coaches Poll, where Villanova comes in at No. 4.

Creighton (14-5, 10-4 BIG EAST) has two games scheduled for this week, starting with Tuesday's 8 p.m. Central game at Georgetown that will air on CBS Sports Network.
