Men's Basketball Opens March Ranked 14th

OMAHA, Neb. -- The Creighton men's basketball team fell one spot from 13th to 14th in this week's Associated Press Top 25 poll.

The change comes after wild week that saw 18 of the top 25 teams in the Feb. 22 poll lose, with three of those programs losing multiple times.

Creighton's (17-6, 13-5 BIG EAST) 22 straight weeks in the rankings extends the program record. The Bluejays remain one of six schools that have been ranked each of the past 22 AP polls (since Feb. 3, 2020), joining Gonzaga (93), Villanova (38), Baylor (35), Houston (24) and Iowa (24).

This is the 111th week in program history that the Bluejays have been ranked, with 83 of those under the direction of Greg McDermott. Creighton is 137-52 all-time as a ranked team, including a 103-40 mark under McDermott. Creighton has been ranked at least one week in eight of McDermott's 11 seasons on The Hilltop after doing it just five different seasons in program history before his 2010 arrival.

Creighton's best rank in program history is No. 7, done four times (Jan. 16, 2017, March 9, 2020, March 16, 2020 and Jan. 4, 2021).

CU is one of two BIG EAST teams that are nationally ranked by the AP this week, joining No. 10 Villanova. Creighton will visit Villanova on Wednesday night at 7:30 p.m. Central in a game that will be nationally-televised on FS1. The Bluejays then close the regular-season on Saturday with a 4 p.m. home game vs. Butler that will be nationally-televised on FOX.

Elsewhere around the BIG EAST, UConn is also among those getting votes.

In the Ferris Mowers Coaches Poll, Creighton is ranked 12th this week. Villanova is ninth. Also getting votes are UConn and Xavier.
