Women's Soccer Opens BIG EAST Play on Sunday Against Xavier

Omaha, Neb. -- The Creighton women's soccer team will begin its BIG EAST season on Sunday, March 7 as the Bluejays host the BIG EAST defending champion Xavier Musketeers at 1:00 pm.

Series History: Creighton Trails Xavier 4-5-0
The Bluejays and Musketeers have split the last six meetings, with the home squad claiming each meeting since 2015. Overall Creighton holds a 2-2 record against Xavier in Omaha. The last time Xavier earned a win over the Bluejays in Omaha was 2013.
Last season Xavier bested Creighton 3-1 in Cincinnati on Oct. 3, 2019.
2020 Season Played in 2021
The global pandemic brought on by the Covid-19 Virus, forced the NCAA to push the soccer national championship tournament from the fall of 2020 to the spring of 2021. Despite the movement of the culminating tournament, the NCAA still recognizes this as the 2020 season. One of the reasons it will remain the 2020 season is the plan to return to the fall in 2021.
Scouting Xavier (1-2-0)
After claiming the BIG EAST Tournament Championship in Morrison Stadium last season with a win over Georgetown, the Musketeers went on to second round of the NCAA Tournament in 2019. Xavier was not on the BIG EAST Tournament champion in 2019, it also claimed a the regular season crown. The Musketeers finished 2019 with a 17-4-2 overall record and went 7-2 in BIG EAST action.
Early in the spring season the Musketeers dropped a 2-0 decision to Saint Louis (Feb. 12), defeated Bellarmine 1-0 (Feb. 23) and fell at Tennessee 3-1 (Feb. 28).
BIG EAST Opener at Marquette Postponed to April 1
The BIG EAST Conference has announced that the Creighton at Marquette women's soccer match, which was scheduled for Thursday, March 4 has been postponed due to COVID issues within the Marquette program.

The match has been rescheduled for Thursday, April 1 in Milwaukee.
Bluejays in Home Openers
Creighton is 18-8-4 in its first home match of the season. Under Paule the Bluejays are 4-1-0 in home openers.
