UConn to Replace Providence at BIG EAST Volleyball Championships

Creighton will open with UConn in Friday's semifinal
NEW YORK, N.Y. -- The BIG EAST announced on Tuesday that Connecticut will replace Providence as the No. 2 seed in the East Division in this week's BIG EAST Volleyball Championship presented by JEEP.
The news comes after Providence (7-3) withdrew from the event due to COVID-related issues within its program. The Friars were set to make their first appearance at the BIG EAST Tournament since 1999, after clinching the No. 2 seed in the East Division last weekend with a pair of five-set wins vs. Villanova.
The updated championship schedule is as follows, with all matches to be held at D.J. Sokol Arena on the Creighton campus in Omaha.

Semifinal 1: Connecticut at Creighton - 11:00 am CT (BEDN)
Semifinal 2: Marquette vs. St. John's - 1:30 pm CT (BEDN)

Championship Match - 11:30 am CT (FS1)
The Huskies are 4-6 overall and placed third in the East Division with a 4-4 record in league play. Creighton and UConn have not met since 2009, a five-set match at the Dayton Flyer Invitational.
