Bluejays Record Consecutive Shutouts to Sweep Doubleheader From Hoyas

Creighton takes opener 6-0, Posts 5-0 win in nightcap
College Park, Md. -- The Creighton pitching staff extended its BIG EAST scoreless streak to four games as the Bluejays swept a Friday doubleheader from Georgetown on April 23. Creighton took the opening game 6-0, then posted a 5-0 win in the nightcap.
With the two wins on Friday Creighton climbed to 13-7 on the season and 5-0 in BIG EAST play, while Georgetown fell to 3-7 overall and 3-5 in conference action.

Game 1: Creighton 6, Georgetown 0

Creighton jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the opening frame by taking advantage of a Georgetown miscue. Sophomore Andrew Meggs drew a one-out walk, then raced around to third on a failed pick off attempt that got away. Freshman Alan Roden cashed in via an RBI ground out.
In the fourth Creighton tacked on four runs as senior Parker Upton laced a leadoff double to right, then senior Dax Roper blasted his fifth home run of the season to left field. One out later sophomore Jack Grace singled through the left side. With two out in the frame consecutive singles by junior David Webel, Meggs and Roden pushed the Bluejay lead to 5-0.
Creighton added another run in the seventh courtesy of a sac fly by Upton.
On the bump Creighton ace Dylan Tebrake tossed seven scoreless innings for the complete game win (5-0). He struck out eight, allowing two hits and one walk.
Georgetown starter Angelo Tonas took the loss (1-2), giving up five runs (four earned on 10 hits in four innings.
Four Bluejays closed the opener with two hits: Meggs, Roden, Upton and Grace.

The second game saw the Bluejays snatch a 1-0 early once more, this time coming on a solo home run from senior Ryan Mantle. The Creighton third baseman blasted his third round-tripper of the year over the center field wall in the second.
The score remained 1-0 into the sixth as Creighton freshman starter Cade Lommel and Hoyas hurler Jack Weeks matched each other pitch for pitch.
In the sixth inning Creighton finally broke free, plating three runs on four hits. Freshman Nolan Clifford opened the inning by reaching on a bunt single. At second with two men down, Roden blasted his sixth home run of the season to right field, extending the Creighton lead to 3-0. Upton followed with a single to left to chase Weeks, stole second and raced home on an RBI single to right from Roper.
The Bluejays cashed in another run in the eighth behind a leadoff double by Roden and an RBI single from Upton.
Roden closed game two with a pair of RBI (four on the day) and two hits. Creighton's middle of the order (Roden, Upton, Roper and Mantle) all delivered two hits in the second battle.
Lommel earned the win (3-1) with a career-high six innings of shutout ball, allowing six hits and nothcing five strikeouts.
Sophomore Ryan Windham and senior John Sakowski put the finishing touches on the win, tossing three combined innings of relief.
The Bluejays and Hoyas will continue their four-game series on Saturday, April 24 at 1:00 pm (CT).
