Volleyball's Jaela Zimmerman Earns CoSIDA Academic All-District Honors

OMAHA, Neb. -- Creighton Volleyball's Jaela Zimmerman has earned Academic All-District 7 distinction from the College Sports Information Directors of America. The Bluejays are the only school in District 7 with a First Team choice in each of the past four campaigns.

The 2020-21 Academic All-District® Volleyball Team, selected by CoSIDA, recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom. The CoSIDA Academic All-America® program separately recognizes volleyball honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA. First-team Academic All-District® honorees advance to the CoSIDA Academic All-America® ballot. First-, second- and third-team Academic All-America® honorees will be announced in early July.

District 7 includes eight states (Colorado, Idaho, Kansas, Nebraska, New Mexico, Nevada, Oklahoma and Texas). District 7 saw seven women named First Team selections among dozens of nominees. Creighton is the only BIG EAST school with a representative on any CoSIDA Academic All-District squad.

A junior from Lincoln, Neb., Zimmerman CU with 3.45 kills per set and shared the team lead with 15 aces. She was also second on the club with 2.71 digs per set. Zimmerman was a three-time BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week and also brought home BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week acclaim once. She was named All-BIG EAST for the second straight season, and was honored as the AVCA East Region Player of the Year and an Honorable Mention All-American by the AVCA.

One player of note who joined Zimmerman as a CoSIDA Academic All-District selection was High Point libero Abby Bottomley, who in April announced she'd be transferring to Creighton and play for the Bluejays in the fall. She's on the District 3 First Team.

Creighton finished its season with a 12-4 overall record after making its ninth straight trip to the NCAA Tournament. The Bluejays also won the BIG EAST for the seventh straight season.
