Men's Basketball's Nembhard Named to Canada's U19 World Cup Team

Incoming freshman will aim for Canada's second gold medal in last four years
OMAHA, Neb. -- Incoming Creighton men's basketball freshman Ryan Nembhard has been chosen to represent Team Canada in the 2021 FIBA U19 World Cup, which starts this weekend in Latvia. Nembhard is one of two current Bluejays who will be in the event, as second-year freshman Ryan Kalkbrenner is part of Team USA.
Team Canada will be seeking its second gold medal after taking home the championship at the FIBA U19 Basketball World Cup in 2017 in Cairo, Egypt. This will be Canada's 12th appearance at the event since the 1979 World Championship for Junior Men. Canada is currently ranked second worldwide in the FIBA World Ranking Presented by NIKE, trailing only the United States.
Former New Mexico head coach Paul Weir will lead Team Canada FIBA U19 Basketball World Cup 2021 and be accompanied by assistant coaches Patrick Tatham, Shawn Swords, and Justin Serresse.
The FIBA U19 Basketball World Cup 2021 is scheduled for July 3-11, 2021 in Riga and Daugavplis, Latvia. A subscription to watch the games is available at https://www.livebasketball.tv, with press conferences available at no charge on the FIBA Youtube Channel at https://www.youtube.com/FIBA. The event features 16 teams that have been divided into four groups (A, B, C, and D) of four teams each. Each team will play against all other teams in its own group (a total of 3 games for each team). Canada is in Group A along with Senegal, Lithuania, and Japan.

All teams qualify for the Round of 16, where they will cross between Groups A and B and C and D (A1 v B4, A2 v B3, etc.). The winners of the Round of 16 games advance to the Quarterfinals, while the non-winning teams move on to the Classification Games for Places 9-16.
