Oklahoma'a Gatorade Player of the Year gives Creighton a top-five class
OMAHA, Neb. – Trey Alexander, a 6-foot-4 guard from Oklahoma City, Okla., has signed a letter-of-intent with the Creighton men's basketball program. Alexander is the fifth top-150 recruit in CU's 2021 class that ranks among the best collection of newcomers in the country.
"We are excited that Trey will complete an awesome recruiting class," said Creighton head coach Greg McDermott. "His ability to play with or without the ball will allow us to play him at several positions. His accomplishments at the high school level speaks volumes to his ability level, but I truly believe he hasn't scratched the surface of his full potential. We can't wait to get him on campus!"
Alexander recently finished an outstanding career at Heritage Hall High School, reaching three state championship games and winning one title. He entered his senior campaign as Heritage Hall's all-time leading scorer and rebounder, then put those numbers out of reach by averaging 23.6 points, 8.7 rebounds, 4.0 assists and 2.1 steals per game to wrap his prep career. He was named to The Oklahoman's Super 5 All-State First Team for the third time this spring, and named the state's Gatorade Player of the Year.
As a junior the sharpshooter averaged 26.6 points, 9.0 rebounds, 4.5 assists and four steals per game, when he was named First Team All-State and MaxPreps Junior All-American.
During his sophomore year, Alexander put up 24 points, 8.4 rebounds, 2.6 assists and 2.2 steals per game to earn Greater Metro Athletic Conference Most Valuable Player accolades.
He was named Little All-City Player of the Year in 2018, when he averaged 19 points and 7.4 rebounds per contest. The then-freshman scored 14 of his 27 points in the fourth quarter of the state title game to help Heritage Hall to the Class 4A title.
Alexander is regarded as a four-star prospect by ESPN, Rivals and 247Sports. He's ranked as a top-100 recruit by ESPN (No. 55), 247Sports (No. 73) and Rivals (No. 81). He's the top-rated recruit from the state of Oklahoma.
Creighton finished 22-9 overall and led the BIG EAST with 14 league victories last season, advancing to the program's first Sweet 16 since 1974. Grad transfers KeyShawn Feazell (McNeese) and Ryan Hawkins (Northwest Missouri State) will join a top-five recruiting class of incoming freshmen that features Alexander as well as John Christofilis, Arthur Kaluma, Mason Miller and Ryan Nembhard as the Bluejays eye the 2021-22 campaign.
