Baseball ProJays Update - 2021 - Creighton University Athletics

Omaha, Neb. -- Each year during the MLB All-Star Break we update Bluejay fans on our ProJays throughout the professional ranks. Creighton has 23 players active at the professional level (two in MLB) that played at least one season for the Bluejays.

MLB
Nicky Lopez - Kansas City Royals
Lopez has appeared in 81 games this season, posting a career-high .265 average. Starting at shortstop almost every day, Nicky is hitting .326 over his last 30 contests.

Darin Ruf - San Francisco Giants
Ruf has played in 59 games for the first place Giants, collecting 31 hits and a .267 average. The outfielder made his debut on the mound with an inning against San Diego on May 9.

Japan
Mike Gerber - Chunichi Dragons
After seeing time in the MLB for Detroit and San Francisco, Gerber went to Japan for the 2021 season.

MILB
Anthony Bemboom - Salt Lake Bees (AAA - Los Angeles Angeles)
Bemboom saw action in eight games in 2021 with the Angels and is currently assigned to the top affiliate in Salt Lake. The catcher went 6-for-27 (.222) at the big league level and made his second appearance on the mound as well. With the Bees, Bemboom is hitting .289 in 36 games, with six home runs and 19 RBI.

Isaac Collins - Spokane Indians (A+ - Colorado Rockies)
Promoted to A+ after 17 games with the Fresno Grizzlies, where he hit .290, Collins is hitting .254 in 30 games (30-for-118) for Spokane.

Ethan DeCaster - Erie SeaWolves (AA - Detroit Tigers)
DeCaster has a stellar 0.46 ERA over 13 appearances (19.2 IP) this season, allowing just one run.

Michael Emodi - Quad City River Bandits (A+ - Kansas City Royals)
Presently sidelined with an injury, Emodi appeared in five games this season.

Ryan Fitzgerald - Portland Sea Dogs (AA - Boston Red Sox)
After starting his professional career in independent ball, Fitzgerald is in his third season in the Red Sox minor league system. In 56 games with the Sea Dogs, Fitzgerald is hitting .266 (49-for-184) with eight home runs and 24 RBI.

Devin Granberg - Portland Sea Dogs (AA - Boston Red Sox)
After opening the season with the Greenville Drive (A), where he hit .326 in 27 games, Granberg was elevated to Portland. Over the last 17 games he is hitting .300 (18-for-60) with a pair of home runs and eight RBI.

Nick Highberger - Midland RockHounds (AA - Oakland Athletics)
Highberger has appeared in 18 games this season out of the bullpen (20.2 IP).

Jake Holton - Lakeland Tigers (A - Detroit Tigers)
In 13 games Holton is hitting .308 (12-for-39) with two home runs and six RBI.

Jordan Hovey - ACL Royals Gold (Rookie - Kansas City Royals)
Hovey spent the last two seasons playing independent ball, but signed with Kansas City in June.

Denson Hull - Hillsboro Hops (A+ - Arizona Diamondbacks)
Hull appeared in 10 games for the Visalia Rawhide this season (16.2 IP) before earning a promotion to Hillsboro. In seven games with the Hops, Hull has a 4.82 ERA in 9.1 innings.

Evan Johnson - Everett AquaSox (A+ - Seattle Mariners)
In 13 appearances this season, Johnson has a 2.08 ERA over 17.1 innings. He made a spot appearance for the Tacoma Rainiers (AAA).

Mitch Ragan - Brooklyn Cyclones (A+ - New York Mets)
Ragan has appeared in 14 games in 2021 (20.2 IP), collecting a pair of wins and posting a 1.74 ERA.

Will Robertson - Vancouver Canadians (A+ - Toronto Blue Jays)
Currently on the 7-day injured list, Robertson has played in seven games during the 2021 season.

Keith Rogalla - Rocket City Trash Pandas (AA - Los Angeles Angels)
Returning to the bump this season, Rogalla has made 15 appearances (22.0 IP) with a 4.50 ERA. He has 23 strikeouts and just seven walks.

Elliot Soto - Oklahoma City Dodgers (AAA - Los Angeles Dodgers)
Soto made his MLB debut last season with the Los Angeles Angels. This season he has appeared in 35 games for Oklahoma City, hitting .244.

Ryan Tapani - Harrisburg Senators (AA - Washington Nationals)
Tapani has made 10 appearances, including one start, this season. He has a 4.24 ERA over 23.1 innings, striking out 25.

Danny Woodrow - Erie SeaWolves (AA - Detroit Tigers)
In 15 games during the 2021 season, Woodrow is hitting .173.

Independent Leagues
Bobby Kametas - Chicago Dogs (AA - Independent)
Kametas has played for both the Windy City ThunderBolts and the Chicago Dogs, tossing a combined 6.1 innings.

Jonah Smith - Sioux City (AA - Independent)
Smith has appeared in four games this summer, tossing a combined 14.1 innings for the Sioux City Explorers.

Jack Strunc - Windy City ThunderBolts (AA - Independent)
Strunc is in his second season in independent ball, hitting .247 in 27 games in 2021.
