Bluejays to introduce four freshmen and a transfer
OMAHA, Neb. -- VolleyballMag.com has ranked Creighton Volleyball's recruiting class as the nation's eighth-best group. The rankings are voted on by a panel of NCAA Division I coaches and take into consideration transfers and international additions.
Creighton has five newcomers poised to hit the practice floor as Bluejays for the first time next month. Three of those freshmen were on Volleyball Magazine's Fab 50 list that was released in May, including outside hitter Eve Magill (Cedar Rapids, Iowa), outside hitter Norah Sis (Papillion, Neb.).and setter Kendra Wait (Gardner, Kan.), In addition, freshman middle blocker Abbey Milner (Lakeville, Minn.) also joins the program.
Volleyball Magazine named High Point University transfer Abby Bottomley a Fourth Team All-American in April following a standout season that saw her also attain Big South Conference Player of the Year plaudits. She will have one season of eligibility remaining at CU.
Creighton is the only BIG EAST school to make the list, which features 10 teams ranked in order, followed by 10 other schools with honorable mention consideration.
PrepVolleyball.com had ranked CU's four freshmen tabbed as the No. 5 class last November, but that did not factor in transfers such as Bottomley, or international additions.
Creighton finished its 2020 season in April with a 12-4 record and its ninth consecutive trip to the NCAA Tournament. The Bluejays return all six starters in addition to welcoming the newcomers highlighted on today's list.
Creighton's first regular-season match of the fall will be Aug. 27 vs. UMKC at the Tiger Invitational in Columbia, Mo. CU's fall schedule includes three teams to make the VolleyballMag.com recruiting top-10 (No. 1 Nebraska, No. 4 USC, No. 5 Kentucky), in addition to Missouri on the honorable mention list.
