Former Wolverine Foe Becomes Creighton's New Volunteer Assistant Coach
Omaha, Neb. -- Creighton Baseball head coach Ed Servais announced the hiring of Dominic Clementi as the Bluejays' volunteer assistant coach for the 2022 season.Â
Clementi served as a volunteer assistant coach with Wayne State University (Michigan) during the 2020-21 academic year, helping the Warriors post a 23-16 record.
A native of Hartland, Wis., Clementi was a four-year letterwinner (2017-2020) for Michigan as a outfielder/DH. A member of the 2019 College World Series team that finished as National Champion runner-up. Clementi was sidelined by an injury during the NCAA Regional and Super Regional, missing the three direct clashes with Creighton in Corvallis Regional.Â
"Creighton is one of the most dynamic programs in the country and I am both thrilled as well as grateful to become a member of Coach Servais' staff," said Clementi.Â
On the diamond, Clementi was a 2017-18 MGoBlue Breakout Player of the Year Award Finalist. He was voted to the 2018 ABCA/Rawlings All-Mideast Region First Team after being recognized on the All-Big Ten First Team squad. In addition, he was Michigan's Bill Freehan Offensive Player of the Year Award Winner. The following year (2019) as a junior, Clementi was the Preseason Big Ten Conference Player to Watch.
After hitting .409 in 18 games as a true freshman in 2017, Clementi led Michigan (and the Big Ten) with a .368 batting average and a .485 on-base percentage in 2018. He played in 115 career games for Michigan, making 64 starts and batting .298 (85-for-285) with five home runs and 45 RBI, along with a .401 on-base percentage.
A two-time Community Engagement Award nominee (2017-18 and 2019-20), Clementi received his bachelor's degree in General Studies within the College of Literature, Science, and the Arts in the spring of 2020.
