Kaluma Helps Uganda to First AfroBasket Win in History

Creighton freshman scores in double-figures
KIGALI, Rwanda -- Creighton freshman Arthur Kaluma had 12 points and five rebounds to help Uganda to its first win ever at AfroBasket on Friday afternoon in Kigali, Rwanda by an 80-66 score vs. Cameroon.
Uganda had been 0-7 in three prior trips in play at the African Basketball Championship.
Kaluma scored the game's first basket and assisted the second basket to help Uganda to an early 6-0 lead as the Silverbacks never trailed. Ranked No. 90 in the FIBA World Rankings, Uganda led 27-22 after one quarter and 44-33 at the intermission against No. 63 Cameroon.
Uganda extended its margin to 62-47 after three quarters and maintained a double-digit lead throughout the fourth quarter to close out its first win ever at AfroBasket.
Kaluma made 5-of-12 field goal attempts to finish with 12 points, five rebounds, two assists, two blocks and a steal. Uganda outscored Cameroon by 14 points in his 23 minutes on the floor. The 19-year-old Bluejay is now averaging 10.0 points and 8.0 rebounds in two games at AfroBasket.
Uganda is scheduled to return to the floor on Sunday at 11 a.m. Central when it takes on South Sudan in a game that will air on ESPN+.South Sudan is No. 94 in the FIBA World Rankings. Today's win also assures that Uganda will be one of 12 teams to reach bracket play, which begins Monday.
