LINCOLN, Neb. -- The Creighton women's tennis team dropped a 7-0 decision to Nebraska on Tuesday evening at the Dillon Tennis Center.
The Bluejays fell to 1-1 on the year with the loss, while the Huskers improved to 1-0.
Nebraska earned the doubles point with victories at the No. 3 and No. 1 positions. Creighton's Jeanne Gearity and Meredith Benson dropped a 6-3 decision at the No. 2 position, while Kate Krueger and Sarah Wilcox fell 6-4 at the No. 1 slot. Malvika Shukla and Valerie Negin combined at the No. 2 slot and evened the score at 5-5 before the other matches finished.
Creighton fell in straight sets in all but the No. 4 singles position. Shukla delivered the strongest performance for the Bluejays at the No. 4 single position. After dropping the first set, 6-3, Shukla recovered for a 6-3 set win before falling 10-6 in the decisive third set.
"I thought our team competed well against a really good Nebraska team," said Creighton head coach Tom Lilly. "Our doubles were very competitive and we had chances at spots in singles. Credit Nebraska as they are well coached and have a strong lineup throughout."
The Bluejays return to action on Friday for a home match against Northern Iowa. First serve between the Bluejays and Panthers is scheduled for 7 p.m.
