Bellevue West standout is younger brother of former Bluejay Josh Dotzler
OMAHA, Neb. – Josiah Dotzler, a 6'3" guard from Bellevue, Neb., has signed a letter-of-intent to play at Creighton. The former Creighton ball boy is the top-ranked prospect in the state.
Josiah is the younger brother of Josh Dotzler, who played point guard for the Bluejays from 2005-09 and still ranks second in program history with 196 career steals.
"We are thrilled to add Josiah to our program," said 13th-year Creighton head coach Greg McDermott. "He possesses the versatility to play multiple positions on both ends of the floor. He has won at every level, including several successful seasons at Bellevue West, and this summer winning a national championship on the EYBL circuit with MoKan. We can't wait to have him follow in his brother's footsteps and enjoy a great career as a Bluejay!"
Dotzler averaged 15.7 points, 4.5 assists, 3.8 rebounds and 2.3 steals per game last season at Bellevue West High School, earning First Team All-State acclaim from the Omaha World-Herald and Lincoln Journal Star. Dotzler was named to the All-State Tournament Team alongside current Bluejay freshman Jasen Green (then at Millard North HS).
In his career, Dotzler has shot 35 percent from downtown while making 119 three-pointers. He has scored 884 points entering his senior campaign.
As a freshman, Dotzler played a key role in one of the great finishes in state tournament history. He scored eight points in a span of 53 seconds to start Bellevue West's game-ending 16-0 run to defeat rival Millard North by two points in the 2020 Class A title game. The past two years the T-Birds have finished as runner-up at the state tournament.
Earlier this summer, his MoKan Elite squad won the prestigious Peach Jam championship, as he became the first Nebraskan to be on a roster of a team that won an EYBL Peach Jam title.
Creighton is ranked ninth nationally in the country and opened its 2022-23 season on Monday with a double-digit victory against St. Thomas. The Bluejays host North Dakota on Thursday at 8 p.m. at CHI Health Center Omaha.
