Argentina native will have two seasons to play at CU
OMAHA, Neb. -- TCU guard Francisco Farabello will transfer into the Creighton men's basketball program, Bluejay head coach Greg McDermott announced on Monday, April 18.
Farabello (pronounced Fair-uh-BELL-oh) is a 6-foot-3 guard from Cañada de Gómez, Argentina. He will have two years of eligibility left to play at Creighton and be reunited with former TCU assistant coach Ryan Miller, who currently holds the same role within the Bluejay program.
"Francisco brings a wealth of experience at both the college and international level," said McDermott. "His understanding of the game and ability to stretch the floor with the three-point shot fits perfectly in our system. We are thrilled to add him to the Bluejay family!"
Farabello has played 73 games at TCU over the previous three seasons, including 18 starts. During his career he averaged 4.4 points, 1.9 rebounds and 1.8 assists in 20.3 minutes per game while making 76-of-189 (40.2 percent) of his three-point shots. Farabello has made 81.3 percent of his career free throw attempts and took nine charges for the Frogs last season.
Farabello scored a career-high 14 points in February against Kansas State and connected on three three-pointers in road games against both Texas and Texas Tech last season. The Frogs finished 21-13 last season before falling in overtime in the Second Round of the NCAA Tournament to top-seeded Arizona.
The Argentinian also boasts a wealth of experience on the international circuit, having competed in the 2019 FIBA U19 World Cup in Greece, the FIBA U18 Americas Championship in Canada and the FIBA U17 World Championships in 2016 in Spain. His father, Daniel Farabello, played professionally from 1991-2014 in Argentina and Italy and appeared in seven games for Argentina in the 1996 Summer Olympics.
Creighton finished the 2021-22 season with a 23-12 record, falling 79-72 to eventual national champion Kansas in the Second Round of the NCAA Tournament. The Bluejays are scheduled to return three starters, including BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Year Ryan Kalkbrenner and BIG EAST Freshman of the Year Ryan Nembhard, to the court in 2022-23.
