Big man ranks as nation's No. 133 recruit per 247Sports
OMAHA, Neb. -- Fredrick King, a 6-10, 220-pound center from Mangrove Cay, Andros, in the Bahamas, has signed a national letter-of-intent to play basketball at Creighton. Head coach Greg McDermott announced the signing on Friday, April 29, after the big man also took visits to BYU, Georgia Tech and Utah.
King is ranked as the No. 133 recruit in the latest 247Sports rankings of 2022 prospects, joining fellow incoming Creighton freshmen Ben Shtolzberg (No. 157) and Jasen Green (No. 184).
"Fredrick is a versatile and an athletic front line player," said McDermott. "Having played at NBA Academy Latin America, he has been coached and trained at a high level. His motor and competitive spirit will allow for an immediate impact on our program. We are thrilled to welcome him to the Bluejay family!"
The 18-year-old King, who didn't play organized basketball until he was 14, first became a well-known prospect last September at the NBA Academy Games in San Louis, Potosi when he averaged 23 points and 12 rebounds to lead his NBA Academy Latin America team to a 3-0 record. He converted 77 percent of his field goal attempts and 74 percent of his free throws there.
King's top two games at the NBA Academy International event saw him finish with 31 points and 16 rebounds in an 82-61 victory over NBA Africa Red. He then added 29 points and 13 rebounds in a 93-87 win over The Skills Factory.
He was the first native of the Bahamas to enroll at the NBA Academy.

Prior to his move to NBA Academy Latin America in January of 2020, King played in junior high school for DW Davis and in high school for CI Gibson in the Government Secondary Schools Sports Association (GSSSA) in the Bahamas, where he was a part of successful teams.Â
In addition to Green, King and Shtolzberg, Creighton also recently picked up TCU transfer Francisco Farabello.
