Sis Helps USA Volleyball To Gold Medal Match

USA sweeps Chile in semifinal contest
BAJA CALIFORNIA SUR, Mexico - The USA Volleyball Under-21 National Team will play for a Gold Medal at the Pan American Cup on Sunday after sweeping Chile on Saturday night. Creighton All-American Norah Sis had five kills in eight swings in addition to three digs, two aces and a block on .375 hitting in the triumph.
Scores of the match in favor of the American side were 25-11, 25-13, 25-9. Team USA is now 4-0 in the event, winning 12-of-13 sets. Sunday's Gold Medal match will take place at 9 p.m. Central against Argentina, which defeated Mexico in four sets in the second semifinal. Team USA defeated Argentina in four sets on Thursday to win Pool C and earn a quarterfinal round bye.
Both of Sis' aces came in the first set, giving CU leads of 9-4 and 22-11. All five of her kills came within the first 16 points of the second set as the US bolted to an 11-5 lead before she was subbed out for the rest of the evening.
The United States did not trail in either of the final two games of the match.
Sis has started all four of Team USA's matches to date, collecting 29 kills, 21 digs, three blocks and three aces on .328 hitting.
The Pan American Cup is a qualifier for the 2023 FIVB U21 World Championship. Ten teams are competing in three pools to begin the tournament. The United States will share Pool C with Argentina, Canada and Costa Rica. Pool A will include Dominican Republic, Cuba and Puerto Rico while Pool B holds Mexico, Chile and Honduras.
Sis led Creighton last fall with 3.75 kills per set and her 435 kills were 106 more than any other freshman on a top-25 team. The Papillion, Neb., product was named to four different All-Tournament Teams and brought home MVP honors at the BIG EAST Tournament. The outside hitter was named AVCA Third Team All-American, AVCA East Region Freshman of the Year, AVCA All-East Region, BIG EAST Freshman of the Year, picked up six BIG EAST Freshman of the Week accolades and also landed on the All-BIG EAST Team. She averaged 4.43 kills per set and 3.36 digs per set on .260 hitting in eight contests against top-50 opponents. She was named VolleyballMag.com's National Freshman of the Year after helping Creighton to a 31-4 overall record and BIG EAST Tournament and regular-season titles.
