Rising Creighton sophomore Ryan Nembhard helped Canada's U19 Team to a bronze medal last summer
TORONTO, Ont. – Rising Creighton sophomore Ryan Nembhard is one of 22 of Canada's top NextGen U23 male athletes who have accepted training camp invitations ahead of this summer's inaugural GLOBL JAM Fives tournament at Mattamy Athletic Centre in downtown Toronto. The tryout list was announced on Tuesday's night on Tim & Friends.
Set to take place in Toronto from July 5-10, GLOBL JAM will shine the international spotlight on the game's rising stars and feature women's and men's teams from around the world competing in an Under-23 tournament, which will be broadcast nationally in Canada on Sportsnet.
The following 22 players will be in Toronto for training camp:

Head coach Nathaniel Mitchell will lead the Canadian men's team alongside assistant coaches Dave DeAveiro, Jamie McNeilly and Scott Morrison, as well as apprentice coach, Kalisha Keane. Rowan Barrett, General Manager / Executive Vice-President, Senior Men's Program, and Michael Meeks, Assistant General Manager, Men's Basketball Operations, have assembled a preliminary roster that ranges in experience, from gold medal winners with Canada at the FIBA U19 World Cup 2017 to those looking to put on the jersey and represent their country for the first time.
One of the team's most experienced international players is Nembhard, who helped Canada to a bronze medal last summer at the FIBA U19 World Cup in Riga, Latvia. In seven games last summer, Nembhard averaged 15.1 points, 6.7 assists, 3.7 rebounds and 1.4 steals per game and was the lone player in the 16-team tournament to post multiple point/assist double-doubles. He also shot 80 percent from the line (20-25) and 38.9 percent (14-36) from three-point range. The bronze medal was just Canada's second ever at the FIBA U19 Basketball World Cup, joining a 2017 Gold Medal on a team starring current New York Knicks guard RJ Barrett.
Nembhard averaged 11.3 points and a team-leading 4.4 assists per game during his rookie season at Creighton, where he was the BIG EAST Freshman of the Year and a six-time BIG EAST Freshman of the Week honoree. He started each of CU's first 27 games before suffering a wrist injury on Feb. 23 that required season-ending surgery.
Training camp will be held June 24-July 4, 2022 at Scotiabank Arena ahead of GLOBL JAM tipping off on July 5. With a round-robin preliminary round format, Canada will face Brazil (July 5, 9:00 PM ET), USA (July 6, 9:00 PM ET) and Italy (July 7, 9:00 PM ET). All teams will advance to the semifinal round on Saturday, July 9, followed by the Championship games on Sunday, July 10.
