Men's Cross Country 10th; Women 12th at Woody Greeno Invitational

LINCOLN, Neb. -- The Creighton men's cross country team placed 10th while the women took 12th at the Woody Greeno/Jay Dirksen Invitational on Saturday morning in Lincoln, Neb.
The Bluejay men were paced by junior Marcos Gonzalez, who finished 26th with a time of 25:05.65. That was 18 seconds better than his time last year, when he placed 33rd in the same event.
Ryan Montera ranked 81st with 2,000 meters to go before a strong finishing kick helped the sophomore take 65th place. He crossed the finish line in 25:51.46.
Freshman Eli Moore placed 125th in his second collegiate race with a time of 26:58.91.
Jake Ziebarth and Matthew Tolman ranked 105th and 107th, respectively, at the 3K mark before turning on the jets. Ziebarth clocked a 26:20.48 time to place 93rd, while Tolman was two spots back in 95th place at 26:22.07.
The Bluejay men placed 10th with 323 points in the race, which featured 31 teams and 323 runners. Colby Community College won the team title with 73 points, just ahead of Kansas State's 81. Colby's Sanele Masondo won the men's race by 40 seconds over Kansas' Chandler Gibbens.
The Creighton women were led by top-60 finishers Morgan Koca and Caroline Rupper. Koca crossed the finish line in 50th with a time of 18:51.56, just 10 seconds ahead of Rupper's (19:01.74) 57th place finish.
Liz Kettler crossed the tape in 115th place at 20:01.00, edging freshman teammate Anika Nettekoven's 124th place showing in 20:09.88. Rounding out CU's scorers was Caroline Colburn, who ended in 129th after a time of 20:15.42.
Kansas State won the women's race with 54 points, five spots better than Nebraska, in the battle among 29 teams. Nebraska freshman Alea Hardie (16:57.86) topped the field of 311 runners, holding off Northern Colorado's Regina Mpigachai by 10 seconds (17:07.98).
Creighton returns to the course on Sept. 30 at the Gans Creek Classic in Columbia, Mo.
