Redshirt Freshman Lexi Unruh Tears ACL, Will MIss Season

Omaha, Neb. -- Creighton women's basketball redshirt freshman Lexi Unruh will miss the 2022-23 season after tearing the anterior cruciate ligament in her left knee during team workouts during September. Additional testing and evaluation in the subsequent days confirmed the diagnosis.
Unruh will undergo surgery to repair the injury on Friday, September 30 and expects to return for the 2023-24 season.

"We're heartbroken for Lexi, she has gone through a great deal since she arrived on campus last year," said Creighton head coach Jim Flanery. "She is surrounded by great teammates that will care for and lift her up and also has strong family support. I have no doubt Lexi will put in the work to get back on the court next season."
A 6'1 guard from Sioux Falls, S.D., Unruh used her redshirt option during Creighton's run to the Elite Eight during the 2021-22 season. Lexi was expected to add backcourt depth to strong core that returns five of its six leading scorers from last season.
Creighton is scheduled to begin the first official practice of the 2022-23 season on Wednesday, September 28, while the Bluejays begin the exhibition season versus Missouri Western on Wednesday, October 26.
