Kazandjian and Rothwell Guide Women’s Soccer to 2-0 Win at Marquette

MILWAUKEE, Wis. – Senior Jordy Rothwell and junior Lara Kazandjian each delivered a goal to lift the Creighton women's soccer team to a 2-0 win over Marquette for their first BIG EAST victory of the season on Thursday, Sept. 29.
The win moved the Bluejays to 5-2-4 on the season and 1-2-0 in BIG EAST play, while Marquette fell to 6-4-1 overall and 2-1-0 in league play.
Junior Lara Kazandjian tallied her second goal of the season during the 22nd minute of Thursday's match. Senior Juelle Love sent the play into motion with a looping pass across the box to sophomore Hannah Luke. Luke one touches a pass over to Kazanjian who blasted a strike into the back of the net to give the Bluejays an early 1-0 lead.
Marquette's Elizabeth Bueckers fired the only Golden Eagle's shot on goal during the opening 45 minutes but was denied by Bluejay goalkeeper Keelan Terrell to preserve Creighton's one goal advantage heading into the break.
The Bluejays' took a bit of stress off their goalkeeper in 74th minute as senior Jordy Rothwell extended Creighton's lead to 2-0. The Wisconsin native headed in a cross to the far post off a corner kick from fellow classmate Aida Kardovic for her first goal of the season.
With time running out Terrell smothered Marquette's lone shot on goal in the second half by Katie Koker to secure her fourth shutout of the season and 12th shutout of her career.
Love led all Bluejays with three total shots as Creighton outshot Marquette, 12-8. The Golden Eagles held a 7-4 edge in corner kicks, while Marquette's Chloe Olson secured five saves as the Bluejays recorded a 7-2 advantage in shots on goal.
The Bluejays return to the pitch on Sunday, Oct. 2 when they host Providence at 12 p.m. inside Morrison Stadium.
