Jays host #2 Nebraska on Wednesday in top-20 showdown
OMAHA, Neb. -- It'll be a top-20 showdown on Wednesday at CHI Health Center Omaha when No. 17 Creighton hosts No. 2 Nebraska in an intrastate showdown of two of the nation's best teams.
The new rankings, released Monday afternoon, guarantee a fourth consecutive meeting between the Bluejays and Cornhuskers when both teams have been nationally ranked.
Creighton held steady at No. 17 in the poll after going 2-1 last week, defeating then-No. 25 USC (3-1) and unranked Northern Iowa (3-0) in addition to a 3-1 loss to then-No. 16 Kentucky. The Wildcats, who swept both USC and UNI to win the Bluejay Invitational, climbed from No. 16 to No. 14 in this week's edition. Creighton's BIG EAST rival Marquette moved from No. 24 to No. 23 following a 1-1 week that included a four-set loss at No. 6 Wisconsin.
The Bluejays have now been ranked each of the last 17 polls and 94 times in program history. That figure ranks 47th-most in history. CU's all-time best ranking in program history is No. 7, which came in the poll released on Aug. 28, 2017. Creighton is 150-36 all-time when playing as a ranked team in the AVCA poll, including a 68-11 record at home. This is the 11th straight season that Creighton has spent at least one week in the top-25, another program record.

First serve at CHI Health Center Omaha for the Bluejays and Cornhuskers is set for 5 p.m. The match will be televised on FS1 and can be heard on News Talk 1290 AM (KOIL). More than 13,000 tickets to the match have already been sold as the programs look to break the NCAA regular-season volleyball-only record crowd of 14,022 that was set when the teams squared off in 2018.
