Creighton Men's Soccer Continues Rivalry as Bluejays Face Mavericks on Tuesday

Omaha, Neb. -- Creighton men's soccer continues the annual Dodge Street Derby as the Bluejays battle Omaha on Tuesday, October 3rd in Morrison Stadium with a 6:00 p.m. start time. Last season the Bluejays delivered a 6-1 win over the Mavericks on Omaha's home pitch.

Series History: Creighton leads Omaha, 8-4-1
The Bluejays and Mavericks have met 13 times previously, with Creighton holding a 8-4-1 edge. Creighton is 4-0-1 as the home team. After meeting seven times from 1979-82, the two squads did not face each other again until 2016. Since the series returned Creighton holds a 4-1-1 edge.

Scouting Omaha (4-3-2, 1-0-1 Summit)
After dropping the first three matches of the season, the Mavericks have gone unbeaten in their last six matches with a 4-0-2 mark.
The trio of Junior Casillas, Theo Klein and Eded Granberg lead Omaha with four goals this season. Casillas has the team lead in points with 10, adding a pair of assists to his four goals. The pair of Abdi Adam and Wawa Paiga have each distributed a team-best three assists.
In goal the Mavericks have split time between Lite Lillo Portero and Nathanael Sallah. Lillo Portero held Kansas City to one goal on September 23 in a 1-1 draw, while Sallah shut out Western Illinois 3-0 on September 30. In four matches this season Sallah has not allowed a goal, while Lillo Portero has allowed 12 goals in 568:29 for a 1.90 GAA.
Scouting Creighton (3-4-3, 2-1-0 BIG EAST)
Creighton goes into the final non-conference match of the season with a chance to gather themselves as the Bluejays play consecutive BIG EAST road matches on Oct. 7 and 14. The next home contest for the Bluejays will bring #5 Akron to Omaha on Oct. 18.
Goalkeeper Blake Gillingham suffered his first loss in the Bluejays' 1-0 loss to Xavier on Sept. 29. Gillingham is 2-1-1 with three goals allowed in four matches.
Seven different Bluejays have tallied a goal this season, while two others have at least one assist to put nine in the scoring column. Alfie Pope leads the team with four goals, while Miguel Arilla and Andrija Savic each have two goals.
Mavericks Hold Edge with Common Opponents
Creighton and Omaha have three shared common opponents this season. The Bluejays battled UC Irvine to a 0-0 draw on Aug. 27, while Omaha fell to the Anteaters 2-1 on Aug. 31. Just one day later Creighton dropped a 2-1 decision to Grand Canyon on Sept. 1, then Omaha took down the Lopes 2-1 on Sept. 4. The final common opponent saw Kansas City defeat Creighton 2-1 in a road match on Sept. 12, then battle the Mavericks to a 1-1 draw on Sept. 23. Overall the Mavericks went 1-1-1 against the trio, while Creighton was 0-2-1.
Bluejay Fans Continue to Lift the Team Up
Bluejay fans have continued to show their support through the first four matches of the 2023 season. In total Creighton has brought 10,952 people in to watch four matches this season at Morrison Stadium. The average attendance of 3,284 fans per match is second in the NCAA, trailing only South Carolina's average of 4,235 per contest.
